Seasonal Skin

image

As we drift in to the end of summer, gone are the breezy sunny days of mid-summer and in its place is hazy and humid February and March.

It is no myth that the skin (much like the leaves on a tree) changes with each season. If you are noticing that you skin is going through a period of problematic change, here’s why -

Humid days play havoc with your skin as perspiration remains on the surface rather than evaporating.  This spells double trouble for your skin because of:

1. Excess oils and moisture on the surface can actual magnify the sun’s harmful rays, causing sun damage and premature aging. This can lead to dryness, flakiness and sensitivity.
2. Perspiration on the surface mixes with bacteria and natural oils to form a layer of biofilm. This can lead to excess shine, black heads and spots particularly on a break out prone skin.

So what are the best ways to combat the humidity and keep your happy, natural skin glow?

Remove all the grime and oil from  the surface of the skin with a good quality cleanser.  Skinstitut’s Gentle Cleanser is rich in antioxidants and is perfect for sensitive skin. It is also the perfect choice to gently remove make – up, even around the delicate eye area.

If you suffer from acne or excess oiliness try a Lactic or Glycolic Cleanser to aid decongesting the blocked follicles.Use a light weight, nourishing vitamin, mineral and peptide based serum to replenish and rejuvenate a stressed out skin. What to use? Well Skinstitut’s Rejuvenate 15 of course!

Protect yourself with a good quality, non-oily SPF 50 in the day time to shield your skin from UV damage, pigmentation and premature aging.Use a restorative leave on treatment at night to gently soothe, smooth and refine the skin. Try Skinstitut’s Enzymatic Micro Peel, a perfect combination of papaya enzymes, anti -oxidants and vitamin B3 to treat redness, uneven skin texture, sun damage and congestion.

So it is true. The skin really does change with different seasons. By simply adjusting your skincare regime to suit your skins response to a fluctuating climate, you can wave  a fond farewell to summer with a radiant healthy glow.

Makeup Brushes

Makeup- brushes are like a fabulous pair of earrings – the essential finishing touch to your look.

Quality makeup brushes can be expensive so it’s important to know what you need. One distinction to note is the difference between synthetic and natural bristles. Natural bristles hold and distribute pigment evenly. Go for natural bristle brushes when applying anything powdered. Liquids will soak into natural bristles and cause them to clog or degrade. So reach for synthetic bristles when applying foundation or any cream formulas.

Foundation Brush: Used to apply foundation to the face and typically made from synthetic fibers. When applying your foundation you don’t need as much product on the brush, so remember less is more and blend, blend and blend!!!

Concealer Brush: A narrow, synthetic brush with a slightly tapered edge. Great for covering blemishes or for applying a liquid concealer in hard to reach places like the corners of the eyes.

Powder Brush: A big, soft natural fiber brush. Can be used to apply loose powder. Remember to tap excess product off before applying to the face for an even coverage.

Blush Brush: They resemble smallish powder brushes with either a sloped or rounded tip. Natural Fiber is best. Great for applying blush or bronzer to cheeks.

Contouring Brush: A soft brush with a flat, angled edge. also used for bronzing.

Fan/ Highlighter Brush: A light brush that is great for highlighting. It is also good for brushing away loose eye shadow.

Eye Shadow Brush: A tapered, flat brush that is good for blending. Used to blend different colored products and to wipe out harsh lines. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Eyeliner Brush: A narrow, angled brush for applying gel liner or shadow as liner.

Eyelash and Brow Comb: The side with the small, plastic comb is used for removing any mascara clumps from the lashes and the bristled side is used for the eyebrows.

Eyebrow Brush: A firm, angled brush used for filling in eyebrows with brow powder. Go for something with coarser bristles. Use them to apply powders, creams or waxes to brows.

Lip Brush:  It provides more control and precise lipstick application than a tube. Like concealer brushes, lip brushes have a firm, thin tip. For on-the-go lipstick application, look for a covered lip brush, which comes with a cover to protect the brush head while you’re traveling.

And never underestimate the power of the original makeup brush – your fingertip. Because of the heat of your skin, fingers make unbeatable blending tools. For covering under eye circles, I like to use a clean ring finger ( the ring finger applies the least amount of pressure as the skin under the eye is so sensitive) to blend away the edges of the concealer.

How to Clean your Brushes.

Regularly cleaning makeup brushes extends their useful life. Cleaning your brushes with warm soapy water. I either use detergent or shampoo to clean our brushes.  After cleaning your brushes, reshape the brush heads with your fingers and line them up on the edge of a shelf or sink to dry.

Skinstitut’s Vitamin C is 100% L-Ascorbic Acid

Skinstitut’s Vitamin C is 100% L-Ascorbic Acid
What does it do?What doesn’t it do?  Apart from helping to treat Melasma, post inflammatory pigmentation and protecting against free radical damage caused by the sun, it’s a mild Tyrosinase inhibitor which reduces unwanted pigment formation and it gently exfoliates the skin while calming inflammation. Plus, Vitamin C can be mixed with most Skinstitut products transforming them instantly into Vitamin C products.

How do you use it?

Mix a rice grain sized amount with Age Defence SPF50+ for additional antioxidant support or with Enzymatic Micro Peel for extra exfoliation.

It can even be mixed with Even Blend Serum and Retinol.  Actually, it can be mixed with every Skinstitut retail product (except for Rejuvenate) for that extra boost and is an excellent prep for dermal therapy modalities.

With Skinstitut’s Vitamin C, you don’t need to recommend separate Vitamin C products to your clients.  Just mix with your current Skinstitut products to get the Vitamin C benefit.  With one container lasting up to a year, it’s great value.

Eyelash Perming

What is Eyelash Perming???

Eyelash perming eliminates the need for daily eyelash curling. Eyelash perming gives eyelashes a permanent upward curled appearance.

Eyelash Perm with collegen and cysteine gives your lashes a wonderful curl, letting the eyes appear larger and more expressive. At the same time the eyelashes are nourished. Unlike mechanical lash curlers an Eyelash Perm gently forms the eyelashes with the curl lasting up to 6 weeks. Collegen is one of the commonly occurring structural proteins in the human body. Together with the amino acid cysteine, proved to contribute to hair development, these active ingredients nourish and protect the eyelashes during treatment, allowing them to appear groomed and fuller.

The application is simple, safe and takes about 45 minutes. With the choice of 4 different roller sizes you can achieve the perfect eyelash curvature for each customer – independent of eyelash length or eyelash form.
